Prethoughts

This was the second review request I received for my review station on the forums. When Elroysice posted the link, it had a little side note, "Hope you don't mind playing a little Ravequest," and I instantly knew this would be good. In the past, Elroysice had requested for me to play/review some of the Ravequest series games (and which I gave fairly short and bad reviews to, because the reviewing standard was way lower), and I enjoyed playing them. So I gladly clicked the link and swept myself to the world of Raveknight.

Review

The gem of the series is its advanced and intricately designed storyline. Ravequest 2 continued the tradition and advances the quest of Raveknight's plot against the enemy Rojonegro (which means "Redblack" in Spanish, which amuses me), and his adventures to stop his evil. Sure, the story is cheesy at times, but it advances the plot and makes the game complete. The whole series's story is actually very similar to Modern Warfare's; it introduces a protagonist (Soap) and antagonist (Makarov), and the game revolves around the protagonist's quest to kill the antagonist, so if you want something similar to it, there you go.

The decoration of Ravequest 2 was elaborate and well designed. The backwalls were placed in near-perfect patterns and everything clicked. What was also impressive was how the decoration actually captured the mood and tone of the story, which was pretty cool.

As with all the games in the Ravequest series, the game is ridiculously addicting. The game always has a feel of mystery that needs to be solved, and you're the detective working your way through to resolve the hidden issue. Even if you lose all your lives, you'd still probably want to replay the whole game, although you may be frustrated, because it's that good, and you want to know what happens.

The game was pretty up and down as you played it through. The action was spontaneous and catches you by surprise, while some events were inevitable and pretty obvious, even to the most of oblivious gamers. Sometimes, the puzzle is obvious, while there's a puzzle here and there that leaves you stumped for quite a while. Ravequest 2 started off easy and it's difficulty rocketed way up after the first couple of levels, which may have frustrated and misled "rookie"/not as experienced gamers. The game's storyline flowed really well together, but the sequence of events seemed to contrast each other and change quickly.

Overall, I liked this game, and I enjoyed playing it. Ravequest 2 did a good job of finishing the previous parts of the series and then leaving another hole for Ravequest 3 to fill (so much suspense, with all these sequels). The game obvious displays the superiority of Elroysice's game making skills and it was well made.

Pros

-Fun.

-Good storyline.

-Nice design.

Cons

-The sequence of events. There wasn't too much transition.

-How the difficulty suddenly rose.
