Prethoughts

So recently on the forums, Deathleaf started a game sponsorship studios entitled, "Pure Epic Games Studios", which is also dubbed "P.E.G Studios". (Link to check it out at end of the review.) I thought the idea was cool, and that it had way more benefits than Apathy, so I joined as a reviewer to help review some games, and this is my first review for P.E.G. I will continue on with my regular no-sponsor reviews occasionally, but for the meantime, I'll be whipping out reviews for P.E.G.

To decide the game was the difficult part, because there was a plethora of great games to choose from. I wanted a game that would be review-worthy, yet somewhat appealing to myself, as a gamer. As I went through the list of games sponsored by P.E.G, I spotted Simplicity by Myownself.

Review

Simplicity is a platformer like game made with the Physics Puzzle Creator with a simple concept, as promised by its title. When I started playing the game, I was actually expecting something more complex, because I thought the title was supposed to mislead people into getting the game more views. It turned out, I was completely wrong. The game has three levels, in which you bounce, slide, and such to reach the coins while avoiding hazards placed at ridiculous nooks and crannies, making the game intensely hard.

The backdrop and design was simple, likewise the goal of the game. No realistic graphics, no Sceptile-like design stuff, just unsophisticated default colored blocks. When you play a Physics Creator game nowadays, most of the games have hi-def graphics, crazy designs, and outrageous architecture. This game's design defied all those concepts and provided an adequate backdrop without days of effort put into it, because he kept it simple.

The gameplay was basic, but it was hard. Myownself really turned an otherwise bland game into a challenge. As I played the game through, I kept thinking, "Why do I keep screwing up? I've probably done this millions of times in other games?" Although the logic and settings were normal, somehow one tiny mistake always spelled out your doom.

The puzzles were also pretty simple. I know this review is getting pretty redundant, but you can't ignore the fact that the game is what it is; a simple game with simple goals. Anyway, the puzzles were just avoiding blocks, everyday spikes, and moving platforms. Avoidance is the key to success in this game, but it's pretty hard to dodge stuff when your character is crammed and has very minimal space to move. Also, the margin of error is tiny, and you have to make the right move, or you'll fail.

Simplicity is a simple game, with no doubts about it. Many people complain and wail that the game is "s00per hard!!11" so its "n0t s1mp73!!!11". Sure, the game is hard and challenging, but the game is a great simple game and I enjoyed playing it. When I was young, I learned K.I.S.S.; "Keep It Simple, Stupid", and I believe that it what Myownself did, and by doing so, he created a pretty sweet game.

Pros

-Simple concept, simple goal.

Cons

-Pretty hard for a game that's supposed to be "simple", but it still was great, lol.
